It's so bad actually, that i'm rooting for Jedward, because theirs is the only song I wanted to listen to more than once.

So, is anybody else surprised that J.K. Rowling is indeed publishing another book?
After all, she didn't seem too much into writing once she was happily married off to her second husband and had more children. (Remember the "doing dishes is more important than writing the fifth Harry Potter book" quote? Nevermind that by then she already had more than enough money to buy a dishwasher)
Well, in that documentary they made about the release of DH, she mentioned writing a book for children even younger than the HP crowd, so the big surprise should be that her new book is actually for adults.
I think this could go either way.
On one hand there is the lackluster way of the last three Potter books, on the other there is the hope that without the pressure of having to finish something so big as HP, she might have produced an enjoyable book again, that didn't go to the presses as soon as the last word was typed down...
Guess we have to wait and read

Thousands of fangirls must be creaming their panties over the Glee preview with Darren Criss and Matt Bomer!
Am I really the only one who is not thrilled at all to see Bomer on the show? (But then I do have a problem with those glass-closet cases... I still like White Collar, but more because of the characters)

Just came back from watching it this afternoon.
As always: Read the book, because it's better! (Surprise, surprise)
I was really looking forward to the movie after having seen the trailer.
Now the trailer shows mostly scenes from early on in the story, and that is one of the reasons why I am a bit disappointed with the movie.
Because as soon as the story leaves District 12, the movie became a bit too showy-flashy-poppy MTV-Generation for me - and not only for the Capitol (where it could have worked to show the difference between there and the districts) but also in the Arena.
Another thing that didn't work for me was how the actual part in the Arena was handled.

can you tell me what all the fuss was about in fandom because of episode 2x03? I finally watched it, and saw no reason for a fuss.
Unless it was about how boring the plot turned out to be, and how you could predict the end after the first scene - in that case, I totally get the fuss)

Dear Glee
I'm just a casual viewer, not a fan, but even I noticed the continuity error about the age - and in one case race - of Rachel's dads.
If at least you'd done the black to white thing in the Michael Jackson special a few weeks back ... it would still have been bad, but perhaps a little less so than now!

With Amy Winehouse we kind of saw it coming, and where more wondering when instead of it it would happen.
Now with Whitney Housten most of us were surprised, even through we knew what she was a similar trainwreck for the past 15-20 years

Anyone with a Goodreads Account that hasn't gotten the info yet:
All Metadata that comes from Amazon will be pulled on Monday, so be prepared for having ratings and reviews on your shelves that show no book title, author name, cover image or description. (and the more non-US books/editions you have shelved, the bigger the problem)
You may want to export a lost of all your books before then: http://www.goodreads.com/review/import

Looks like Amazon forced them to delete all information until the 30th.
The thing that eerks me now is that (aside from bad information - which they blame on contracts with Amazon) while they try to do anyting to safe the data for all American books, they throw all international books/users/authors under the bus (unless their userbase chucks in with hundreds of unpaid hours of data entry to safe the books themselves until the deadline)
Looks like I am going to safe all my data from the past year, and then go back to post my reading stats back here, if they don't come up with a solution in the next few days that makes the site still usable to the international user base.

Did you know that there was something like SOPA/PIPA planned to pass in 1997?
Did you know that by a German court ruling from 1998 you should have a disclaimer that mentions that you have no influence of the material on an external site you linked?
It wasn't the end of filesharing when Lars Ulrich started to sue people who downloaded Metallica songs
It wasn't the end of filesharing when they shut down Napster
It wasn't the end of filesharing when they started to flood Kazza/eDonky/eMule with fake files
And I am pretty sure that the end of Megaupload won't be the dead of filesharing and/or the internet either
It's pretty hard to kill the internet, and the more people start to relay on it on a daily base not only for fun but also for information and work the harder it will become.

Started to fill out some meme about 2011, but then didn't see the point in it.
There wasn't any big drama in 2011 so by my standarts it was a pretty good year, even if it also lacked highlights
But I leave you with my song of the year:

I was gonna update this with much happier stuff, but for the past week I've just been so enraged with LJ's asshattery that I've had it to here.
In case you didn't know, on 12/12 they first announced sneakily on the Russian journal of LJ's design guy that with new changes being implemented tomorrow, there will be no more subject lines in comments and that this change was "non-negotiable" (good round-up and translation here). I'm sure you all realize that this will basically make fandom and RP communities unusable. LJ's staff, however, doesn't give a shit. At least 18 pages of 100% negative feedback didn't sway them.
They've backpedaled some and will make keeping comment subject lines optional in some S2 styles, but the default (that 99% of communities are running right now) will decidedly be subject-less! Not to mention that their new and frankly, fucking ugly design will take forever to load and make the site a pain to use on mobile browsers.
And oh, it looks like they might be taking away the drop-down menu to select icons as well, so you'll have to load all your icons as pictures to select them. Lovely. (I will beta-test tonight to see if this is actually true.)
Really, I don't know why I'm surprised. LJ is always fucking with the parts of the site that actually work and breaking them, so this is just another instance of that. Because seriously, who are subject lines hurting by just being there? (And no, it can't be a matter of server strain, considering the new "graphic" interface will definitely be using up more resources - so much fun when there's DDoS attacks!)
As far as I know, they've never once listened to their customers, so those thousands of comments already posted probably won't do shit. I've left a message expressing my concerns about the new comment pages here anyway; so if you want to do that too, go for it! If anything, it helps with the rage. ;)
FYI: Dreamwidthis feeling Christmasy has reacted to LJ's bullshit and has open account creation (no invite codes needed) for the rest of the week. Might be a good idea to get your back-up or new home, whatever the case may be, up and running now.

- While you were sleeping (Still the only movie ever that made me cry - and in the cinema at that. I was 14 and wanted nothing more than a normal, loving family)
- Love Actually

For someone who isn't very much into christmas, I get involed a bit more each year

Yes, I understand that one of your IT people got sick, but no, I don't understand why you changed the platform anyway.
Why not use the old one for another year, rather than this half-assed new one, where most of the important things don't work?
I don't want to be redirected to my profile just because I updated my word-count
I want my notifications as emails, not in the site-inbox

Today I got a digital Pen and a toaster
The manual of the toaster was double the size of the manual for the pen
But the toaster worked right away while the pen needs a shit-load of calibrating to my handwriting and I'm too tired to do that today
also, on a totally unrelated note, Rivella grün tastes bäääh!!

and yes, that totally is an acceptable answer to a favorite song.
But Killer Queen has been on heavy rotation in the past couple weeks

Did you know that Queen's "Greatest Hits II" was one of the first to CD's I ever bought myself? (The other I got at the same day was "Take That and Party" - Two "classics" for the ages, at least for me ;) )
